METHI PAPPU--- SIDE DISH FOR DOSA/CHAPPATHI/RICE

Methi has very rich medicinal properties. When it mixed with dhal which is rich in protein gives extra nutrition to our body. When prepared in this method ie without spices it gives natural taste and aroma to the dish. Let see how to prepare this simple dish.

INGREDIENTS 
METHI LEAVES 1 BUNCH
TOOR DHAL 1 CUP (cooked and mashed)
TOMATO 2 SLICED
DRY CHILLI 2
GREEN CHILLI 1
CUMIN 1 TSP
MUSTARD 1 TSP
CURRY LEAVES
ASAFOETIDA 1 PINCH
TURMERIC 1 PINCH
SALT TO TASTE
COOKING OIL 1 TSP
JAGGERY  1 SMALL PIECE

PREPARATION TIME 15 MINS
SERVES 4

(If it is okay you can use sliced onion and ginger garlic paste. But it tastes great without the two)

Clean the methi and separate it from its twigs.wash thoroughly and allow to dry.
Heat a pan and add 1 tsp of cooking oil.
Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds, red chilli and green chilli and saute for a minute 
Add methi leaves and saute in oil until its raw smell leaves.
Add a pinch of turmeric and salt to taste and mix well.
(At this stage add onion and ginger garlic paste and cook until onions raw smell leaves)
Once mixed well add cooked and mashed Toor dal and mix well.
Add 200 ml of water and sliced tomatoes.
Bring to boil and see to it tomato is cooked to mashey. If you want as a side dish maintain thick consistency. If you want to have with rice maintain semi liquid consistency.
Add a small piece of jaggery and Curry leaves .Transfer to serving bowl.
Nutritious Methi Pappu is ready to be served.
